Chris Colfer Books in Order: An Epic Guide to 3 Fabulous Series
Chris Colfer books have become a staple in every middle-grade fantasy library and in our own home. All five of our combined children have become fans of Colfer’s books. It’s no surprise! His twist on classic fairy tales has made him a New York Times bestselling author.
If are just discovering Chris Colfer’s books, know that he has written two complete series and a third series will be released in 2024.
The first is a six-book series called The Land of Stories. This is a series about twins named Alex and Conner who drop into the fairy tale world. But, not all these fairy tales are like the stories we know.
The second series written by Chris Colfer is A Tale of Magic which has three books. This series is a prequel to the first series and is about a girl named Brystal Evergreen who finds out that she is capable of magic and is cast out by her family.
It’s recently been announced that Chris Colfer’s third series, Roswell Johnson Saves the World! is scheduled to come out on June 4, 2024. This time, Colfer’s decided on a Sci-Fi series set in space!

Who is Chris Colfer?
While children know Chris Colfer as the author of the hit middle grade fantasy series, The Land of Stories, adults know him as Kurt from Glee. He’s retired from the world of acting and is now a full-time writer.

We think that the Land of Stories series is appropriate for ages 8 and up. I read the series as a grown-up and think that it is smart, funny, and entertaining.

The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer
This is the first book in the six-book series, The Land of Stories. Alex and Conner Bailey and twins who could not be more different. Alex is a studious bookish student while her brother is the class clown who is popular and prefers to sleep rather than study.
Alex and Conner live with their widowed mother. The story begins one year after their father died in a car accident. On their 12th birthday, their mysterious grandmother brings them the family’s heirloom book of fairy tales which is a portal to a different world: The Land of Stories.
This story is a wonderful combination of classic fairy tales mixed with modern elements. Throughout the story, Alex and Conner encounter Goldilocks, Cinderella, and Snow White (old favorites) as well as some new friends (froggy) who help them on their journey to try to get back home. The Wishing Spell is enchanting, endearing, and addicting.
The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns by Chris Colfer
In the fairy tale world, the Eastern Kingdom has a problem. The vines and thorn bushes they worked so hard to clear are growing back at a rapid rate. They don’t know how or why, but only one thing could have caused this.
Back in the real world, the twins’ grandmother has been gone for several days. Just when they thought things couldn’t get worse, their mom gets kidnapped. Their grandmother finally returns only to hold them prisoner in their own house for their own safety. The twins embark on a dangerous journey to save their mom and possibly both worlds.
The Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning by Chris Colfer
Everything started out normal for Conner Bailey. With his sister in the fairy-tale world, he’s lonely and bored. Lucky for him, he was going to Germany along with Cindy, Mindy, Lindy, Wendy, Bree Campbell, and Mrs. Peters for a presentation on the Brothers Grimm.
One of the stories he hears is different than the rest. It was as if the story was a warning in disguise. With the help of Mother Goose and Bree, Conner must find a way to stop the evil before it reaches the fairytale world.
The Land of Stories: Beyond Kingdoms by Chris Colfer
As Alex and Conner follow the Masked Man across the Fairytale world, Alex starts to lose control of her powers, becoming angry and vengeful, almost like Ezmia. When the Fairy Council refuses to continue the search, Alex runs away, intent on finding him on her own.
Soon, she discovers his secret: the Masked Man possesses a powerful potion, allowing him to travel into books. As the twins hop in and out of classic literature, they fear it will be too late to stop him.
The Land of Stories: An Author’s Odyssey by Chris Colfer
The Masked Man has recruited villains straight from children’s nightmares; the Wicked Witch Of The West, the Queen Of Hearts, and Captain Hook. With everyone in the Fairytale world either in hiding or captured, the twins are in desperate need of help, and the only people Conner can think of are people straight from his imagination: the characters in his short stories.
As Conner and Alex travel, they face never-ending challenges that threaten to stop them, but in order the save both worlds, they must preserve.
The Land of Stories: Worlds Collide by Chris Colfer
Alex has gone missing, and Conner is determined to find her. Everything seemed happy. Hero had been born, Emmerich had found his mother, and the masked man was gone.
Out of nowhere, Alex was gone and had taken an entire bathroom with her. With the help of his friends, Conner must find out where his sister disappeared and what was happening to her. This is the epic conclusion to the series and is a definite must-read.

A Tale of Sorcery by Chris Colfer
Brystal made a promise to Death to destroy the Immortal, but it’s been almost a year and she’s no closer to completing her task. She and her friends hunt for the Book of Sorcery to help them with their quest.
This story introduces us to Gobzilla, Butternut, and Ryder, but it primarily focuses on Brystal and Xanthous as opposed to Lucy.

Will there be a book 4 in A Tale of Magic?
No. Although many fans would love a fourth book in the series, no other book has been announced.
When will The Land of Stories movie come out?
In 2017, Chris Colfer started the initial development of The Wishing Spell movie. There has been no further word on the production of the movie.
Are the Land of Stories and A Tale of Magic Connected?
Yes. Although these are both stand-alone series that can be read alone, the second series is technically a prequel series.
