Local Literary Watering Hole: Main Point Books in Wayne, PA

Main Point Books Entrance

I had the pleasure of visiting Main Point Books in Wayne a few weeks ago.  It is a lovely book store that is right in the heart of Wayne’s shopping district.  It is pretty and bright with so many little nooks to sit and read.  The hour I spent in there  passed in the blink of an eye.

I love book stores. I could spend all day walking between the shelves with the smell of paper all around me.  Book stores are becoming less abundant than they once were.  While I would say that in general this is a bad thing, I think it has forced book stores to become more than they once were.  Main Point Books in Wayne has everything you could want in a store. Have you ever read a book that enthralled you so much you had to read it again and again? That’s how I feel about Mr. Tiger Goes Wild by Peter Brown. The message within the story connected incredibly well with a new exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art – Wild: Michael Nichols. We decided to read the story and explore the exhibit with our children. While we were there, we saw a camp doing the exact same thing, with the exact same book! Vincent and Theo & a Trip to See Sunflowers at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Vincent and Theo at Philadelphia Museum of Art

The folks at Children’s Book World recommended Vincent and Theo by Deborah Heiligman to my mother recently. She mentioned it to me so I promptly went out and read it too. I generally don’t read many works of non-fiction, but I found this particular book fascinating (as I mentioned here.) The relationship between Vincent Van Gogh and his brother, Theo, was complicated. Their love for one another was inspiring, though they did fight often as brothers are wont to do. Most of all, I loved the description of the art. When I remembered that Von Gogh’s famed Sunflowers was hanging in Philadelphia Museum of Art, Jackie and I promptly took a trip to explore.
