This is such a crazy world that we are living in and everyone is dealing with things in a different way. Some people are working, others have to stay home, and some people fall somewhere in between the two extremes. But from the craziness, there have been some silver linings. Communities are coming together to support each other and be there for each other. People are coming together in ways that would have been unimaginable 1 year ago. Kirsten and I love books and our local bookstores. They have such a wonderful way of bringing people together. We have had so many questions about how to support local bookstores that we decided to put together a post.

Online Orders and Gift Cards
Many of the publishers and book distributors are still open which means you can order books online. If you go to your favorite indie bookstores website, you will see instructions for ordering online if the store is able. Three different local bookstores in our area of PA all have different formats. Also, if you email the store, you will be able to purchase a gift card which is very helpful for the stores right now.
Libro.fm is a place to purchase audiobooks that are linked to the independent bookstore of your choice. A percentage of the profits from each and every book that you purchase goes directly to the indie bookstore. If you purchase a Libro.fm account this week, 100% of the profits will go to the bookstore of your choosing. You have the same choices of books at the same price as audible, the only difference is the profits go to indie bookstores. We have a link that will give you 2 free books. We love Libro.fm so much that we devoted an entire post to it. Feel free to read if you want to learn more.
Book Industry Charitable Foundation is a charitable, non-profit foundation that is devoted to assisting bookstore employees and retailers who are facing hardship. The idea was to allow booksellers to help each other. The foundation has helped in so many different ways from dental or medical needs to flood or fire damage. The foundation also provides scholarships to support career development. Binc and Libro.fm have also paired together to raise money by selling #socksforbinc. These are adorable socks that are available for a minimum donation of $15 but, you can donate as much as you would like.
Save Indie Bookstore Now
Binc, The ABA, James Patterson, and Reese’s Book Club have created an emergency fundraising campaign. The campaign, known as Save Indie Bookstore Now, is hoping to raise millions of dollars to give to independent bookstore RIGHT NOW so that they can survive the COVID-19 closures. James Patterson started the campaign off with a $500,000 donation. As of this writing, $811,000 dollars have been raised.
