Van Whittaker is friends with the same people he hung out with as a kid. When Caroline arrives in Greenhead, Mass, she falls for him immediately. But when Van’s ex-girlfriend, Bailey, finds out she is pregnant with his baby, Caroline’s place in Van’s life comes into question.

She exposes the group’s secrets to the entire town and works them all into a tizzy. These old friends may finally have to grow up and take a look at the lives they’ve created for themselves.

This novel really dives into friendships and how they can push us forward or hold us back. The dynamic of a new member entering – and then exiting – a friend group was fascinating to read and worthy of a great book club discussion.

I loved all the delicious secrets the friends were hiding from one another and the reckoning that happened when Caroline exposed them all. As always, Jenny Jackson writes characters I felt I knew, understood, and could root for despite their actions. I’d love to discuss this with a book club group! Gifted by PRH Audio.

Miles and Kate are uprooting their family and heading to Vermont after Kate accepts a new job. The timing couldn’t be more perfect because Miles, a Russian folklore scholar, keeps changing the thesis for his master’s degree.

While he initially struggles to find people he can relate to, since he has nothing in common with Kate’s colleagues, he becomes friends with an eccentric group of locals and learns of a Vermont folktale that he’s not sure is actually fiction.

As Miles and Kate struggle to find their place, they learn about each other and themselves.

This is a story about finding passion, connecting with community, parenthood, and folktales. With a full cast of narrators on the audiobook, this one was unputdownable.

July 2026 Oprah Book Club Spoiler

Oprah doesn’t release her book club picks in the same way as the rest of the celebrity book clubs. She picks them when she likes – on no timetable. Her picks often span multiple months for reading and discussion as well.

She chose her current pick in mid-June, so we don’t yet know if she will have a July 2026 Oprah book club pick.

little wonder

Author: Sophie Chen Keller

Release Date: June 16, 2026

Genre: Fiction

Jenna Bush Hager’s Thousand Voices Imprint has its second celebrity book club pick with Little Wonder. Song delivers food in China and feels like a nobody while her son, River, is a musical genius. He started playing intricate pieces as a toddler, so it’s no surprise that he is offered a chance to study at an elite school when he was just 11. On his way to that school at a busy train station, River’s hand slips out of Song’s, and they are separated.

The story is their journey back to one another over many years. A mother with no money is searching for a child who is at a loss for how to find his mother.

Poverty, loss of a child

This is an extremely powerful and poignant story that left me in tears. It is astounding to me that this is not a work of historical fiction but rather a work of contemporary fiction. The story is entirely plausible, which is what makes it even scarier.
