It’s almost that time of year again. Hanukkah lights, Christmas lights, latkes, and cookies are everywhere! It’s my favorite time of year. There is something in the air that brings out kindness and happiness in everyone. I love curling up with a good book- especially if I can read the books to my kids. Holiday classics are some of my favorites and we have included a list of our favorites below for both Christmas and Hanukkah. Continue reading “Best Holiday Books for Kids”
It’s that wonderful time of year again! The holidays are here and there is nothing better than sitting down to read a good book. There are some fantastic new kids books that are coming out (or have just been released). I love when there are great new books to read with my kids. We read a lot in my house so adding some new books to the rotation of old favorites always helps. Here is a list of our favorite upcoming releases for kids books. Did we forget your favorite? One of the greatest joys of being a book blogger has been meeting people in the book blogging community, particularly on Instagram – or Bookstagram as it’s known to many. The voracious readers online are a cheerful, welcoming bunch of people who constantly inspire Jackie and me. I love getting to interact with like-minded readers and I learn something new every day! My favorite part, however, is when another blogger inspires me to pick up a story on a challenging subject that enlightens me.
One such blogger is Madeleine of Top Shelf Text. Madeleine has gotten me to read many a book over the past year and I have always been pleased with her choices. In September she took her recommendations one step further by launching the Diverse Books Club (the DBC.) This incredible online book club explores diversity in literature. Personally, I’ve learned so much about the #blacklivesmatter movement and the refugee crisis. I’ve asked her to share more about the DBC with all of you. She’s even picked her two favorite reads for us to giveaway!

I live on a street that has a block party every year. The neighbors get together to talk and catch up and I love it. I didn’t know that when I moved in but, I found out a few weeks later. There used to be just a handful of kids in attendance but now, 7 years later, there is an entire area blocked off specifically for the dozens of kids to bike, draw with chalk and play ball.
This year, a neighbor who looked familiar to me introduced herself. My book fairy godmother, as I now call her, not only lived on my street but, she works in my favorite children’s bookstore. Her familiarity was not just proximity to where I live but, the countless hours I spend in Children’s Book World in Haverford.
The result of this fortuitous coincidence is that Kirsten and I were able to attend a fantastic event at Children’s Book World. At the event, the educators and owners of the shop shared with us the best children’s books of 2017. We now have a list of these fantastic, newly-released picture books, early readers, and middle-grade books to share with you.
I don’t know about you but I am a little obsessed with books. Long before my children can remember, I have been reading to them. I may have started reading to them before they were born. There is no one thing that makes a book special. Some are funny, some are sweet, some have a lesson and others are interactive.
The one thing they have in common is the joy they give when they are read. We have put together a list of our favorite first baby books. They cover a variety of themes from unconditional love and stories about sleep to books that teach colors and days of the week. Some will be old familiars but some may become new favorites. We hope you enjoy! Continue reading “Little Library: Baby’s First Books”
