Unique Bookends: Book-inspired Bookends Galore!

Amazing bookends and books to pair with them!

OMG ya’ll, Target is killing the bookends game these days. I was shopping for a lamp the other day and stumbled upon a whole endcap of adorable unique bookends. One child wanted the taco set and the other was craving a hamburger one. Not to mention, my beloved bicycle set is still there too!

One of my favorite gifts I’ve ever given was a dear friend’s housewarming gift. I gave her those bicycle bookends and a book I thought she would adore (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.) I was so happy to think of her growing book collection being proudly displayed between the bookends. So, I thought I would round up all my favorites from Target AND suggest a book pairing to go with it. It’s the perfect gift combo for all year long.

Unique Bookends and Adult Book Pairings

Pineapple Bookends with Castle of Water by Dane Hucklebridge or any of the books on our Ultimate list of beach reads. Pineapples are also a sign of welcome and hospitality in the south, so you might want to pair it with a coffee table or home decorating book too.

Mermaid Bookends with The Museum of Extraordinary Things by Alice Hoffman. The Museum of Extraordinary Things features Cora, a performer in her father’s circus. She wants a different life but she’s not sure if that’s possible. It’s a beautiful tale by a favorite author.

Whale Bookends with Moby Dick by Herman Melville of course! Moby Dick can be found for only $3 online, but we like the idea of giving a collectors edition of this classic.

Bicycle Bookends with The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. I looked this story about a man with Asperger’s on the hunt for the perfect wife. Don spends most of the novel scooting around town on his bike while he narrates the story. You’ll fall in love with this romance.

Pinecone Bookends with Still Life by Louise Penny. The first book in Louise Penny’s mystery series is adored by anyone I’ve ever given it too. The whole series takes place in the village of Three Pines where the characters feel like old friends.

Diamond Bookends with Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld. This Pride and Prejudice retelling is so incredibly funny. It takes place in modern day Cincinnati, but the obsession with marriage remains. What better story to give as an engagement present?

Octopus Bookends with Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. I read Verne’s classic earlier this year and adored it. Who doesn’t love a giant octopus in story or bookend format? This penguin hardbound edition is my favorite cover of the classic for sure.

Wooden Mountain Bookends with The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. Yes, I went with an obvious one here but that’s because it’s just so good! I love this story about surviving in the rugged Alaska wilderness. The descriptions of life in the mountains are magical and perfect to pair these wooden creations.

Looking for a perfect birthday gift? Why not give an adorable book and bookends to match? We've rounded up 16 fabulous pairs that are affordable too.

Kid Bookends and Book Pairings

Seesaw Bookends with The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall. The moment I saw this bronze set, the Penderwick sisters immediately popped into my mind. The charming classic is a first in a 5 book series and each book is more wonderful than the last.

A to Z Bookends with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. or any of the other books on our favorite Alphabet Books list!

Hamburger Bookends with Sam’s Hamburger by David Pelham. Sam is a naughty boy, who fills his sister’s meals with bugs and other creepy crawlies. This 3 dimensional lift-the-flap book has been a favorite of mine since I was a child and my boys still love it today.

Taco Bookends with Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin. Ok, so obvious, but so perfect! Psst. Did you see our playroom inspired by the same book?

Banana Bookends with Curious George by H.A. Rey. Everyone’s favorite monkey remains a classic for a reason. I must have at least 5 editions of various Curious George books around my home. I might just need to round them all up and corral them with this fabulous ceramic set.

Donut Bookends with If You Give a Dog a Donut by Laura Numeroff. All of Laura Numeroff’s books are incredible. From a mouse with a cookie to a moose and a muffin, we think they are all great – but who can resist a donut book?

Pig Bookends with Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. This story is truly one that every kid should have. Charlotte’s dedication to her friend is inspiring for kids of all ages – and this fire-engine red pig is cute too!
