Once again, I’ve rounded up the books that will be chosen as October 2026 book club picks by the Reese Witherspoon, Oprah, Read with Jenna, and GMA Book Clubs. These have NOT yet been officially released (as of now, they are all being announced on September 29 and October 6th), but I am fairly confident in our intel.

Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club, Hello Sunshine, was the first of the modern celebrity book clubs to catch on in recent years. Started in 2017, her list features thrillers, romances, historical fiction, YA, non-fiction, and modern fiction.

Plot

Jenna Bush Hager started her book club on the Today Show back in the spring of 2019. They are often more literary than Reese’s picks and cover various thought-provoking topics.

This is a dual timeline story that follows Livia from her past as a music conservatory student to the present, in which she is married and living on the farm she grew up on. When she receives a phone call from an old lover from her conservatory days, it shakes up everything in her life. She has to decide if she is going to meet with the man from her past who broke her heart and altered the course of her life.

Why Kirsten loves it
It’s hard to put into words all that I think about this story. It was my first Kingsolver book (I know! Shocking!), so I was entranced by her abilities as a writer. Add in the complex tale of love, loss, and inherited burdens, and it about knocked me over. I wanted to reach through the novel and hold Livia gently by the hand to see what everyone around her saw, that she was a light in the world. I also wanted to shake her at times for her relationship with Sigurd and the hold it had on her, one that I think is incredibly strong due to her childhood trauma.
And don’t get me started on that trauma because WHEW. The baggage her mother left her would have taken a lesser woman out. I loathed that woman, but I loved the other characters- Mickie, Charlie, and sweet Bassoon will now live in my heart forever. If you are on the fence about this one, please read it!!!

October 2026 Good Morning America Book Club Spoiler
GMA’s answer to Read with Jenna was to host their own celebrity book club. This one launched in the Fall of 2019, and it’s probably the best one of the bunch.

Plot
Parker’s debut novel was supposed to be the book of the decade. He even earned a 7-figure advance. But when Selina Chen, a renowned book reviewer, trashed the book, it became the flop of the decade.
When he publishes his sophomore novel, Selina reviews it again. However, this time, when she bashes it, Parker confronts her at a party, and it is caught on video. It goes viral and starts a literary feud where everyone takes a side. The debate begins between writers, reviewers, publishers, and fans: What is the role of a reviewer, and when does it get too personal? Can an author confront someone who gives them a bad review?
When Parker and Selina start to chat privately, outside the public sparring matches, they begin to see a different side of each other.
Why Jackie loves it
I loved the way this story developed. The conversation about what a review is, and what people should be writing in a review- love it or hate it. This novel is beautifully written by someone who clearly loves the power of the written word. I cannot wait to discuss this book with everyone.

It’s Only Dancing

Oprah doesn’t release her book club picks in the same way as the rest of the celebrity book clubs. She picks them when she likes – on no timetable. Her picks often span multiple months for reading and discussion as well.

Plot
In this debut novel, Sofia is just a 12-year-old living in the car with her mother and brother as they try to find normalcy while being displaced. It’s a coming-of-age story about survival and resilience in the face of the unknown.

Why Kirsten loves it
I can’t get over what an incredible debut this was. Sofia’s maturity and growth over the course of the story mirrored the writing style, which became more connected and less disjointed. It’s hard to have a child narrate and still leave clues for readers to infer what is actually going on, allowing for more understanding from the reader’s inference than from the actual narrator, but Rizkalla nailed that balance.
She masterfully captured the tightrope walk of living on the edge of poverty in America, with help just a fingertip out of reach for Sofia’s family. I couldn’t put this story down, and I know it will stay with me for years to come.
