7 Twilight Books in Order: The Best Guide to the Twilight Saga

If you have never read Twilight, I highly recommend you read the Twilight books in order. But, with two books added to the Twilight book series, you may be wondering what the correct order is. Don’t worry, I have you covered with everything related to the Twilight book series.

Twilight Books in Order: Complete Guide to the Twilight Saga!

Believe it or not, after I read Twilight, I did not feel compelled to read the rest of the Twilight series. Why? I cannot give you any reason, other than I had no idea what I was missing. A friend insisted that I read the next book and as soon as I did, I was hooked!

Twilight Book Series in Order

The original Twilight series had four books that were published between 2005-2008. The Novella of Bree Tanner was then published in 2010 as a follow-up story. The final book in the Twilight series is Midnight Sun which tells the story of Twilight from Edward’s point of view. Even though it was not a part of the original series and it is telling the same story, if you are reading Twilight in order, we definitely recommend that you read this book as well. Meyers originally said that she was never going to publish the last book which explains the 12-year gap between Midnight Sun and Breaking Dawn.

  1. Twilight (2005)
  2. New Moon (2006)
  3. Eclipse (2007)
  4. Breaking Dawn (2008)
  5. Midnight Sun (2020)

When Bella Swan goes to live with her father in Forks, Washington, she needs to start a new school. As she begins to settle in and make friends, she is drawn to Edward Cullen, a mysterious teenager with an old soul.

But Edward and his family are keeping secrets – they are more dangerous than they look. Can Bella stay away or will she fall for Edward and risk her life in the process?

The way I binged this book series…. it took over my life! When the movie came out, I decided to finally read this series I had heard so much about. I finished each book in about a day and then promptly dragged my husband to see it with me. I haven’t been this obsessed with a series since HP.

Twilight started a phenomenon and obsession with vampires in the same way that Harry Potter created an obsession with magic. It was addictive to read! This is my opinion but I am sticking with it. This is a must-read young adult fantasy book and it inspired Fifty Shades of Grey!

New Moon

In this novel, Edward has left and Bella is completely devastated. She does not know how to live life without him. She finds comfort in her friendship with Jacob.

No, there are suddenly massive wolves roaming the forest near Forks, the threatening vampire Victoria, and the ancient vampire royalty, the Volturi.

I have to say that this was my least favorite book in the Twilight series, but it is probably the most important book in terms of characters, plot, and subtle foreshadowing that will be important in the books to come.

Seattle has had a huge increase in killings and Bella is once again in danger. She now finds herself needing to choose between her friendship and growing feelings for Jacob and her love for Edward.

How do you choose between a vampire and a werewolf? As graduation approaches, Bella is also deciding about living her life as a human or becoming a vampire. As the danger approaches and Bella becomes more vulnerable, she tries to convince Edward to change her before it is too late.

It was this book that prompted the “Team Edward” and “Team Jacob”. For the record, I was always team Edward.

Breaking Dawn

Author: Stephanie Meyer

Year: 2008

Bella is still torn between the connection she feels for Jacob and her love for Edward. She has a final choice to make in this stunning conclusion.

You will see love, devotion to family, and friendship develop and strengthen. You will once again see the Volturi, the werewolves are epic and the final words of this book are perfect. I will not say more and spoil it but, if you have not read this book, what are you waiting for?

*Spoiler*

The relationship between Jacob and Renesmee is a bit weird looking back as an adult. It may be triggering for some

This EPIC conclusion to the saga is my favorite and a book I love to read over and over.

I think if Twilight had been written later, it might be more like this 832-page whopper!

You will learn everything you ever need to know about Edward. What did he think when he first saw Bella? Where did he go when he disappeared from school for those few weeks?

I loved reading this book after I read all the other books in the Twilight series because I felt I got to know all the characters I loved in a different way!

Bree Tanner

Year: 2010

We all know the story of Bree Tanner from Eclipse, but we do not know the story before. Bree finds herself part of Victoria’s army of newborn vampires created to take down the Cullens.

This novella is a story of friendship, danger and romance and a great addition to the Twilight Saga.

What if Twilight was reimagined with Bella being a boy named Beau and Edward is Edythe? The premise of this book is that the gender roles are reversed, and I loved it.

There were a number of changes made to this reimagined book. Some of them were because the gender roles were reversed, some of them were due to differences in personalities between Bella and Beau, but most of them were made because Meyer wanted to make changes after almost 10 years after the publication of Twilight. I imagine this book was almost like a redo.

It was so interesting to see how Meyer would have changed Twilight. I have to say that after reading all the books from the series and watching all the movies so many times, I did have a hard time learning new characters.

Are Twilight Books Appropriate for Teens?

The first Twilight book is a perfect YA romance. It has an epic plot and storyline that has become iconic. As the stories continue and the plot deepens, so do the topics that arise.

**Spoiler Warning**

Bella’s deep depression, Edward’s attempt to get the Volturi to end his existence, and of course the pregnancy, are all topics that may not be appropriate for a younger audience.

When Should I Read the Short Second Life of Bree Tanner?

You can read this Novella at any time after you have read Eclipse; however, we think you should read this book between Eclipse and New Moon!

When Should I Read Midnight Sun?

Just like Bree Tanner, you can read this book at any time. I read the Twilight series in the order in which they were published. As such, I read this book last, and I highly recommend you do the same. After you have read the series, it will provide such great insight!
