Fantasy Books Like The Selection

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
This book has a cult-like following for a reason. The first book in the series is a loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in the world of Prythian. Magical creatures, humans, and fae are all prominent in the book. A love triangle develops by the end of the story and book 2 is jaw dropping! You will want to binge this series in one week.

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton
This book features a competition that’s a bit different from The Selection’s, but one we feel you’ll like all the same. In the world of Orleans, people are devoid of natural beauty and need The Belles to use their magical treatments to be beautiful. The most powerful of the Belles

Cinder by Melissa Meyer
This 4 book series is set in the future in a time of disease and war. This series is a part twisted fairy tale, part dystopia, and part sci-fi fantasy. Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel are re-imagined as you have never seen them before. All of them are smart and strong women far from the helpless damsels in distress we know them to be.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Caraval is a game that changes every time it’s played. Filled with magic and wonder, this destination-based competition is played by Scarlet as she tries to get this year’s prize – her sister Tella – before anyone else can. There is a love story and magic as the stakes get higher the longer Scarlet plays. This is the first book in three part series that gets better and more complicated with each new book.

The Night Circus
The stage has been set for a magical competition between two very powerful magicians. The stage: the night circus. The competitors are a man and a woman who are unsure of the rules, unsure how to win, or when the competition will end. As the competition continues, the opponents fall in love which complicates things.

Royal Romances For Your Maxon Loving Heart

The Red Queen by Victoria Averyard
The Reds are rebelling against their Silver blooded oppressors in this dystopian series. The Silvers have god-like powers, but the reds don’t – until Mare Barrow comes along.
Mare is swept into the royal household of Reds and a love triangle is formed between her and the two princes, but all is not what it seems. It’s addicting in a great way and perfect for royal novel lovers!

The Betrothed by Kiera Cass
Guys, it’s another Kiera Cass royal romance with a love triangle! YAAS! It’s hard to fully rate the series because book 2 isn’t out yet, but so far I’m into it!

Royal Replicas by Michael Pierce
Talk about a guilty pleasure! I devoured this YA Fantasy book about royals in less than 24 hours. I couldn’t stay away and can’t wait to read the next 3 in the series.
Victoria has just learned that she and 6 other girls are clones created to replace the royal heir, Amelia. Now she must compete to win both her title and the hand of a prince.
This is literally the perfect book for people who loved The Selection Series (which is basically everyone.)

The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead
So this is a blend of historical fiction set in world the resembles colonial America and England. Trying to escape an arranged marriage, Adelaide, a countess, impersonates her maid and goes off for a life of adventure in the new world.

The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
Look no further than this royal romance. If you haven’t read this romance loosely based on Wills and Kate’s love story, read no further. This is the end-all, be-all of Royal Reads.
This novel spans from the time Bex and Prince Nick meet in college until the night before their wedding. It goes through the ups and downs of the relationship and ends on a cliffhanger. But do not worry. The Heir Affair is already out and you can read that one next. Of all the royal reads, this is the one we recommend most often.

A Dress for the Wicked by Autumn Krause
Set in an alternative Victorian Era, this book is centered around a fashion competition. Think Project Runway set in the 19th century but with a romance.
Dystopian Books Like The Selection

The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
The Selection Series is often described as The Hunger Games meets The Bachelor, so if you haven’t yet read this series… DO IT! And then watch the movies!

Matched by Ally Condie
Think of matched as The Giver with a love triangle. In the future, Officials chose who you will marry according to who will be your perfect match.
But, when Cassia falls in love with a boy she isn’t matched with, it causes her to reconsider everything she knows about her world and its rules.

Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth
This trilogy is a story of family, sacrifice, courage and love. Set in a time when people are divided into five factions (the honest, the selfless, the brave, the intelligent and the peaceful). Beatrice must choose between her family and herself.
