Gavin, a professional baseball player in Nashville, recently discovered his wife has been faking her orgasms. Determined to do better in the bedroom, and avoid a divorce in the process, Gavin joins a secret club – a book club!

But this book club is unlike any other. It’s comprised of the biggest alpha males in Nashville and they only read romance books. Together, the members of the bromance book club help Gavin win back his wife.

This book was the perfect break I needed into a world of romance. The idea of a bunch of men getting together to read romance novels to try and improve their relationships is amazing.

Although now that I think of it, maybe this book is a fantasy. This book is a perfect light read that I finished in a day and as far as rom-com novels go, it is a definite must-read!

Blush

Author: Jamie Brenner

Year: 2021

Genre: Fiction

Spice Rating:💋

Age Range: 16+

This newest contemporary fiction book from Jamie Brenner is a departure from her previous books, which have all been set in coastal towns. This story takes place in a vineyard!

Three generations of women must come together to save the family home and livelihood by having the failing vineyard. This would not be an easy task on any day; they are also fighting against sexism and the belief that a woman’s role is elsewhere. Vivian, Leah, and Sadie must each confront their pasts and their own demons in order to come together.

The intergenerational book club in this story was my favorite part! I loved the multiple layers of mother-daughter drama and the satisfying conclusion to all the women’s problems.

Southern book Club

Author: Grady Hendrix

Year: 2020

Genre: Fantasy

More info: Horror Thriller

Spice Rating:💋

Age Range: 18+

I do not usually like horror but I love thrillers, book clubs, and vampires so I decided to read this urban fantasy book. I absolutely loved every minute- even when I was completely scared out of my wits. This vampire book will have you on your toes.

This book really is Steel Magnolias meets Dracula. Patricia is a housewife with two kids who don’t appreciate her and a husband who travels a lot. She spends a lot of her time caring for her senile mother-in-law who lives with them. When her elderly neighbor attacks her one night, James comes to the rescue. James seems well-read and well-traveled but Patricia is convinced he is a monster in disguise.

Patricia knows what she sees but nobody else agrees with her. The psychological warfare in this adult fantasy book is next-level creepy – it definitely earns its spot on our Best Books of 2020 list! Be warned that this book is scary and creepy but is one of the best books for fall!

Rape, Gore, Blood

This book is one of the scariest books I have ever read and yet, I loved every second. This book will mess with everything you think is true. There is graphic violence which was actually less scary than the anticipation of a jump scare the entire time I was reading this book.

the guernsey literary and potato peel pie society

Genre: Historical Fiction

Spice Rating:💋

Age Range: 18+

This story about the island of Guernsey’s occupation during WWII features a book club that started to deceive the German soldiers. The members of the book club quickly become friends. Can you think of a better book for book clubs than one about a book club?

When a young novelist finds out about their society, she begins a correspondence and eventually visits them to learn more. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society must remain secret for their safety rather than by choice.

War, Death

The story is told entirely in letters and was recently turned into a Netflix movie! I love this heartwarming novel. If you have not read this cozy book, I highly recommend it to anyone who loved The Jane Austen Society by Natalie Jenner.

Eleanor Clarke, Rose Wharton, and Lavinia Cavendish all receive a mysterious invitation to join Lady Duxbury for tea. These women all share a love of words, but are all repressed in different ways. Each of these women is limited by men in their lives in pre-suffragette London.

What they find is a secret book club and a place where they can find friendship and freedom from society’s expectations in 1885. This friendship will shape them in more ways then they could have imagined

Lack of rights for women, physical and emotional abuse.

This is one of my favorite historical fiction books of the year. The book had me completely invested from the first few pages, and the rest of the story did not disappoint. I grew to love these characters; I was rooting for all of them. The multiple POVs were fantastic, and I had no trouble differentiating the characters.

The Marthas Vineyard Beach and Book Club

Author: Martha Hall Kelly

Year: 2025

Genre: Historical Fiction

Spice Rating:💋💋

Age Range: 16+

This is a dual-timeline narrative that takes place in 2016 and 1942. Mari Starwood has gone to Martha’s vineyard from Califonia after the death of her mother. She is looking for answers with only the name of a famous painter as a clue.

The Smith girls are trying to hold their family together during WWII. Cadence and her best friend Bess start a book club which grows in members and popularity, while Cadence’s sister, Briar, is off snooping and spying. When a man washes ashore, he says there is a spy among them and the girls don’t know who to trust.

War

I loved learning about the impact of WWII on Martha’s Vineyard. I had no idea about the D-day drills or what life was like for the women on the island with the men off at war. Each character’s storyline was intriguing, though the 2016 narrative didn’t add much to the story, it DID help resolve a few wartime secrets in the present day. #gifted by PRH Audio

book club for troublesome women

Author: Marie Bostwick

Year: 2025

Genre: Historical Fiction

Age Range: 16+

It is 1960, and Margaret Ryan seems to have it all. But the house, husband, three kids, and prestigious neighborhood don’t feel like enough for her or her friends Viv and Bitsy. Margaret decides to start a book club as an excuse to meet their newest neighbor, Charlotte, and soon they discover that they want more from the life they have been told is the American dream.

Women supporting other women is always a theme I love to see in literature. In a time when a woman couldn’t open her own checking account without her husband’s permission, that theme is crucial for each of these women. As they individually step into the limelight and out of the shadows, they collectively support and uplift each other when any stumbles.

I loved the peek into the past and comparing it to how far we’ve come as a country towards women’s rights (a trend I hope doesn’t backslide). The friendships, drama, and descriptions in this story kept me riveted. It’s one of my favorite books of the year for sure!

I could not wait to read this book, and it did not disappoint me. I loved the relationship between the women, and I love the fact that their relationship starts with a book club. It is uplifting to see positive and supportive female relationships. I have been loving historical fiction novels this year, and this one is a must-read. The audiobook version of this book was a delight to listen to #gifted
