Romance Books About Books
I’ve already read two new release romance books about books in 2025 and it’s barely February, which pretty much cements the fact that readers love this sub-genre of romance and writers love it too! With that in mind, I decided to round-up the best of the best so you can find your new favorite romance novel about writers, readers, or publishing industry insiders.

While Jackie was talking to me about all the thriller books about writers that she’d read, I was busy telling her about all the romance novels about writers I had read. It led to a fun conversation in which we realized we had collectively read over a dozen of these stories.
Below is our compiled list of favorites! They range from clean to STEAMY, so please pay attention to those kisses. The more kisses, the steamier the story!

Seven Days in June
Author: Tia Williams
Year: 2021
Genre: Romance
More info: June 2021 Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick
Spice Rating:đź’‹
Age Range: 18+
Plot
The latest Reese’s Book Club pick was quite a unique read. It was billed as a romance but that doesn’t do this novel justice. Yes, there are some steamy scenes, but it also deals with childhood trauma, drug addiction, racial issues, and single motherhood.
Eva Mercy is a single mom and a bestselling author of Erotica. Shane Hall is an award-winning novelist. The two meet at a literary event and sparks fly, but what nobody knows is that the two met years ago and spent a week together. Since that time, their novels have been declarations of love for each other.
Trigger Warnings
Trauma, addiction
Why Kirsten loves it
It was much heavier than I expected especially with a second chance romance novel. If you are looking for something that will make you think, this is the right pick for you from our list of books about books.
Why Jackie loves it
This is such a complex and deep second-chance romance. The years have been difficult for these two and they carry a lot of baggage.

Cozy Mystery Romances Featuring Writers

She Doesn’t Have a Clue
Author: Jenny Elder Moke
Year: 2025
Genre: Romantic Mystery
Spice Rating:đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹
Age Range: 18+
Plot
She Doesn’t Have a Clue is a cozy mystery set on a remote island during a wedding weekend for an editor and marketing director at a small publishing house. One of their star writers, Kate is a mystery author who is stuck with her ex-friend (and sort of crush) Jake as a plus one at the wedding.
Over the course of the weekend, the bride is routinely targeted with murder plots and Kate and Jake stumble upon another body. Now they are trying to figure out what is going on while warding off their attraction to one another.
Why Kirsten loves it
The mystery was a delight and I couldn’t figure it out before it unfolded… but the romance was the heavy hitter. It’s a steamy story but filled with real chemistry and character depth.
This is one literary trend I hope continues to grow in popularity! These stories just hit differently!

The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year
Author: Ally Carter
Year: 2024
Genre: Mystery Romance
Spice Rating:đź’‹đź’‹
Age Range: 16+
Plot
After losing her assets to her cheating ex-husband, mystery author Maggie Chase agrees to head to the home of her biggest fan for the Christmas holidays. Unfortunately for her, Ethan Wyatt, another author from her publishing house, is also along for the trip.
It turns out, they have traveled to the home of Eleanor Ashley, a prolific mystery writer (clearly inspired by Agatha Christie) who has a sprawling mansion in the middle of the countryside. During a snowstorm, she mysteriously disappears. Now Maggie and Ethan must work together to try to find her. With murder attempts around every corner and a growing attraction between our leads, this is one fun genre-bending story.
Why Kirsten loves it
Once I started this story, I couldn’t put it down! I was completely swept into the mystery, I was enchanted by the crackling chemistry between our two main characters, and the setting and snowstorm just left me craving a snowy night in. I was utterly charmed by this one and you will be too!

Spice Rating:đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹

Plot
As soon as I saw what this book was about, I knew I wanted to read it. I love Emily Henry books. Nora is a literary agent who is a shark for her clients. Her life is books and will stop and nothing for her job or her little sister, Libby.
When Libby begs Nora to take her to Sunshine Falls, the setting of one of her most famous books, she reluctantly agrees. When they get there, the town does not look anything like the book describes. In addition, her literary nemesis, book editor Charlie Lastra is in Sunshine Falls. Now, Nora and Charlie find themselves together in a plot twist neither of them could see coming.
Trigger Warnings
Death of a Parent
Why Jackie loves it
I love that Nora finds herself in the setting of her favorite book series. That is one of my favorite tropes to read. But this enemies-to-lovers romance book is also so well-written and only Emily Henry can do. The characters feel real and the relationship develops so well, it is everything you want from a romance!

The Perfect Rom-Com
Author: Melissa Ferguson
Year: 2025
Genre: Romance
Spice Rating:đź’‹
Age Range: 15+
Plot
Bryony Page is an aspiring writer who is offered a job as a ghostwriter for Amelia Benedict, a rom-com novelist. Bryony agrees under the condition that the literary agent, Jack Sterling, will try and sell her books as well. But nobody could predict that Brian’s books would turn Amelia from popular, to best-selling author with millions of copies sold. Now the agency cannot let her go and Jack realizes he does not want to for personal reasons.
Why Kirsten loves it
Melissa Ferguson always writes the most swoon-worthy, clean romances! Jack has all the green flags, but perhaps the best part of the novel is the contemptuous relationship between Bryony and Amelia. It had me giggling more than once.
