During the pandemic of 2020, we were stuck at home, bored, and our nails looked atrocious. Enter Olive and June nail polish and the accompanying manicure kit!

What is the Poppy?

OK, let’s talk about the Poppy tool. On Olive and June polish, the outer white cap comes off so that the smaller white cap underneath can be used for the Poppy.
The Poppy is a little bulbous handle that attaches to the nail polish lid and helps your hand get a better grip on the polish. It’s a genius item that is wonderful for beginners.

In our opinion, the manicure kit is where it’s at. While the pedicure kit was wonderful during quarantine when we didn’t have the ability to get salon pedis, if you can only get one kit, we think the manicure kit is the better buy because you change fingernail colors more frequently, it helps you get the basics of nail care down, and you can apply your learnings to a pedicure even without the Posey that comes in the pedicure kit.

Why is Olive and June Nail Polish so good?

The reason Olive and June nail polish gets such high marks from us is that it lasts!! We are talking a week without chipping!
Jackie rarely painted her nails before because the polish always cracked and she hated shellac and gel nails which can damage nails.
It lasts so well that a friend of mine recently called to say her drug-store nail polish remover couldn’t get it off easily. I wouldn’t know, because it comes off in a breeze with the nail polish remover pot, which happens to be an Allure best of beauty winner.

Our Favorite Olive and June Nail Polish Colors

When it comes to picking nail polish colors, it’s really important to know your skins undertones. I (Kirsten) have yellow, or warm, undertones. Jackie has blue, or cold, undertones.

Generally, that means that dusty colors or those with blue or green undertones will wash me out, while they sparkle on Jackie’s hands.

For that reason, my picks tend to be bright in tone and warmer over all.

I adore Lava, KAG, CV, Hot Strawberry, MG, and Wild & Free. All of which fall into the orange/red/pink color family. They are in order in the image above.

Jackie gravitates towards the blue/grey color family and those with dustier undertones like AW, RP, ECC, HZ, and GH. Those colors happen to make an amazing ombré, so check them out in the slideshow below.
