Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club – March 2023 Celebrity Book Club Spoiler
Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club, Hello Sunshine, was really the first of the modern celebrity book clubs to catch on in recent years. Started in 2017, her list features thrillers, romances, historical fiction, YA, non-fiction, and modern fiction.

The Nightingale
Author: Kristin Hannah
Year: 2015
Genre: Historical Fiction
More info: March 2023 Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick
Age Range: 16+
Plot
This is a remarkable story of two sisters who live in France. As historical fiction goes, this one set the standard for me. It is one of my all-time favorite books. It details how they survive the Second World War under Nazi Occupation. The sisters are separated by time and have completely different experiences in the war.
This book is one of the books that should be read in a lifetime. It is a total tear-jerker and should be essential reading! If you have not read this book and are looking for a pick for your next book club, you should consider this one. I will also point out that this is a book about WWII, not the Holocaust. While there is a subplot with a Jewish character, this by no means is a book about the Jewish experience during the war.
Trigger Warnings
WWII
Why Jackie loves it
The powerful story and the bonds of sisterhood in this book make it an unforgettable book. I cannot wait to see the movie adaptation
Why Kirsten loves it
I love historical fiction and read them all the time. This book was still filled with surprises and the writing grabbed me from the first page.
Adaptation Information
Elle and Dakota Fanning are set to produce and star in the film adaptation of this book which has been in the works for quite some time!

Read With Jenna Book Club – March 2023 Celebrity Book Club Spoiler
Jenna Bush Hager started her book club on the Today show back in the spring of 2019. They are often more literary than Reese’s picks and cover a variety of thought-provoking topics.

Black Candle Women by Diane Marie Brown
March 2023 Read with Jenna Book Club Pick
Generations of Montrose women—Augusta, Victoria, Willow—have lived together in their quaint two-story bungalow in California for years. They keep to themselves, never venture far from home, and their collection of tinctures and spells is an unspoken bond between them.
But when seventeen-year-old Nickie Montrose brings home a boy for the first time, their quiet lives are thrown into disarray. For the other women have been withholding a secret from Nickie that will end her relationship before it’s even begun: the decades-old family curse that any person they fall in love with dies. MORE

The Good Morning America Book Club – March 2023 Celebrity Book Club Spoiler
GMA’s answer to Read with Jenna was to host their own celebrity book club. This one launched in the Fall of 2019 and it’s probably the best one of the bunch.

Pineapple Street
Author: Jenny Jackson
Year: 2023
Genre: Contemporary Fiction

Spice Rating:đź’‹
Age Range: 16+
Plot
I loved this family drama book about the blue-blooded Stockton family, told from the perspective of sisters, Darley and Georgiana, and their sister-in-law, Sasha.
Each woman struggles to navigate life in the Stockton family. Sasha, a middle-class artist feels like an unwelcomed outsider. Darley struggles to live up to the Stockton family name after she gives up her identity to embrace motherhood. Georgiana, the youngest, needs to grow up and become a capable adult!
Each family member struggles both on their own and within the family dynamic in this wonderful contemporary fiction. Each sibling faces dramatic struggles from sick parents to committing adultery to a lost job.
Why Kirsten loves it
I loved seeing how they each grew throughout this book for book clubs and ultimately how they strengthened their familial bond. While the book had enough meat for me to get invested, it also had glimpses of the whimsy of the monied elite. The matriarch of this family in particular is a hoot!

Oprah’s Book Club – March 2023 Celebrity Book Club Spoiler
Oprah doesn’t release her book club picks in the same way as the rest of the celebrity book clubs. The March 2023 Oprah pick (chosen in February) is below.

Bittersweet by Susan Cain
February 2023 Oprah’s Book Club Pick
Bittersweetness is a tendency to states of longÂing, poignancy, and sorrow; an acute awareÂness of passing time; and a curiously piercing joy at the beauty of the world. It recognizes that light and dark, birth and death—bitter and sweet—are forever paired.Â
Â
If you’ve ever wondered why you like sad music . . .Â
If you find comfort or inspiration in a rainy day . . .Â
If you react intensely to music, art, nature, and beauty . . .
Â
Then you probably identify with the bitterÂsweet state of mind. MORE
