Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton Books in Order

I fell in love with Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series when I first saw the series on Netflix. After the first season, I became obsessed with reading the entire series of Bridgerton books in order. It did not take long because they are completely addictive. If you are wondering which book to read next, I have all the information on the Bridgerton book series in order.

With the launch of her newest book, Queen Charlotte, the new spin-off series, and the newest season of Bridgerton, I thought it was the perfect time to give a complete guide to the Bridgerton books in order. If you have read the series and are looking for books like Bridgerton, don’t worry, I have you covered there as well.

Every book is more fun than the last and even though the series has ended, I hope the world of Bridgerton is never complete.

There is something about Daphne and Simon that I adore. This book is a perfect historical romance. The Netflix book adaption smashed records and caused a boom in book sales.

Daphne Bridgerton is the fourth of eight children and is beginning her first season in the ton. As young women of marrying age search for a husband, Daphne is not quite like other girls.

When the eligible Simon Bassett suggests they begin fake dating to allow them both a chance to breathe. However, things do not always go as planned. To make matters more complicated, Lady Whistledown always seems to know the truth and the information ready for everyone to read. This is one of our fake dating books of all time.

I watched the show and LOVED it so much. I previously read some of the others in the series but I really wanted to read this first book in the Bridgerton book series and I have to say, it was my favorite.

I love a great historical romance and this one had everything I was looking for – great characters, a steamy romance, and a happy ending.

The viscount who loved me

I watched the entire series in about a day and had a serious hangover. That was quickly resolved by reading the next few books in the series.

The best part? Reading the Bridgerton books in order was not necessary to enjoy the books. And, reading this one out of sequence didn’t really give anything away.

Anthony knows he must marry and has the perfect bride picked out, even if he does not love her. The only problem is his intended’s older sister who is stubborn, opinionated, and stuck in Anthony’s head. She may just find her way to his heart as well.

I loved this enemies-to-lovers romance. The characters are fantastic and the plot is everything that I needed it to be for a pick-me-up.

an offer from a gentleman

So, this was the fourth Bridgerton book that I read and after this, I read the rest of the Bridgerton books in order. I loved this book; it reminds me of a Cinderella retelling in Bridgerton style.

Sophie Beckett is treated like a servant by her stepmother so she never thought she could sneak into the Bridgertons’ masquerade ball. Once there, she dances with the handsome and prince-like Benedict Bridgerton. They become smitten with each other, but this book takes twists and turns the way only Julia Quinn can do!

I love this Cinderella retelling. Julia Quinn makes sure that every one of her books is unique, steamy, and unputdownable. I love the Bridgertons and want to see them get their happy ending.

Benedict’s story will be featured in season 4 of Netflix’s popular series. Luke Thompson is returning to play Benedict Bridgerton and newcomer Yerin Ha has been cast as Sophie Baek. Filming is underway but the release date is TBD.

Romancing Mr Bridgerton

This was the story that I was most excited about and could not wait to read. So, when it became available at the library before book #3, I read it. This is another example of not reading the Bridgerton books in order and I am ok with that!

This is the love story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. Colin returns from a trip abroad when he finally realizes he has feelings for Penelope. His sister’s best friend has finally come into her own and is no longer the shy girl she once was. But, Penelope has a secret. Will it get in their way of happily ever after?

This is the last book narrated by Lady Whistledown.

I love the story of Colin and Penelope because Penelope Featherington has been in love with Colin Bridgerton since she can remember and has always been overlooked. I have been rooting for these two since the beginning- especially since the Netflix series plays it up (Can anyone say Poiln?). This is one instance where the show enhances the books!

Sir Phillip did not know what he was getting into when he proposed to Eliose. He thought that as a spinster, she would be quiet and demure- even after a year of correspondence. When Eloise decides to see his suitability as a husband and comes to his house without warning, the man she sees is not what she expected!

He is rough, rugged, and as a botanist, works with his hands in the garden. He also fails to mention that he has two children. Could these two find their happy ending together?

This is the fifth book in the Bridgerton series if you are reading the Bridgerton books in order. I was so excited to read the story of Eloise Bridgerton because I always wanted her to find her happy ending, even if that ending is as unexpected as she is.

This book was such a fun read. The sixth book in the Bridgerton Series is about Francesca Bridgerton. She was not featured so much in the first four books of the series so this was a story with a character that seemed almost new.

Michael Stirling is a notorious rake who falls head over heels for Francesca, the first time he sees her. Unfortunately, it is a supper celebrating her upcoming wedding to his cousin. Now, Francesca is free, and Michael has not lost his feelings for her. If he can only find a way to tell her.

The Netflix adaptation of this book looks like Michael will actually be Michaela and we cannot wait to see how this plays out.

I loved this second-chance romance book. Even though Francesca felt like a new character, I quickly came to know her and wanted her to find her HEA

Gareth St Clair has a father who hates him and a diary in Italian that he needs to be translated- it may contain the key to his future, after all. Hyacinth agrees to help him. She is outspoken and loud, not at all what Gareth thought he wanted and yet, she might be just the person he always needed in his life. If you are reading the Bridgerton books in order, there is only one left, pace yourself.

The seventh book in the Bridgerton book series is Hyacinth Bridgerton’s story. She was so young when the books began so, it is a lot of fun to read books where the characters age and you get to take the journey with them.

If you are reading the Bridgerton books in order, this is the last Bridgerton book. But, do not fret! There are more books in the Bridgerton world for you to enjoy.

This book is Gregory Bridgerton’s story and it is a fun one. Gregory thinks he loves Hermione Watson so her best friend agrees to help him win her over. But, in the process, Gregory falls in love with Lucy and Lucy falls in love with him in return. Except, Lucy is engaged to someone else. Are you following? This last book is the perfect way to end the series.

I love this book and hate that this is the last Bridgerton book. I know there are some prequels and spin-off books but I am still sad that I am done this series.

More Bridgerton Books

A new book to add to the Birdgerton world?! I mean, we could end the description there and everyone would rush to read this book. This is the story of Charlotte Mecklenburg-Streiltz who married King George III. This is a spin-off series on Netflix as well.

These Bridgerton books are novellas and bonus books you will want to read if you love the Bridgerton series.

Bridgerton Books in Order: The Prequel

BTB Elements and icons 10

If you are reading the Bridgerton books in order and watching the Netflix adaptation, be aware that the television series and the books do not go in the same order! The Netflix adaptation had book four as season three.

  • Each Bridgerton book is its own love story. If you truly do not want to be spoiled and find out anything about past stories, you should read the books in order. However, if you do not mind knowing who the Bridgerton siblings end up with, feel free to read the books in any order you want!
  • The Bridgerton children’s names are alphabetical by age but the books are not chronological. The first book is Daphne who is the fourth Bridgerton child.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Have to Read the Bridgerton Books in Order?

Short Answer: No.

Long Answer: There are 9 books in Julia Quinn’s series and I did not read the Bridgerton books in order. Shocking, I know. Each book has its own romance that is independent of the other books.

However, the characters from the Bridgerton books are consistent and if you read them out of order, you may spoil the fun of the earlier books. They grow and change and are a huge part of the appeal of this series.

If you read the Bridgerton books in order, you will not have any spoilers. If you read them out of order, you may spoil the books for yourself. For me, I was with a few spoilers here and there and I loved the entire series even though I did not read them in order!

YES!!! Queen Charlotte: Before the Bridgertons Came the Love Story That Changed the Ton by Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes was released on May 9th, 2023. The Netflix series came out on May 4th, 2023.
