October 2025 Book Releases
I am so excited about the October 2025 book releases, and I cannot wait to get my hands on these books. It is always so much fun finding the upcoming new books.

This month, there are some fantastic picks… October is the time when these books are published to establish themselves before Halloween but also before Christmas! I also have a list of September 2025 book releases by genre.
It is also exciting to see so many multi-genre novels on this list. It has been so fun to select the October 2025 book releases (with tons of help from Kirsten) with only the books that Kirsten and I want to read.
You can help authors by going into your favorite reading app and adding these books to your To Be Read pile. You can also head to your local indie bookstore and pre-order the books you know you will love. This helps the authors a lot. All the books on this list are linked to Libro.fm and Bookshop.org. Both of these sites are associated with independent bookstores!

October 2025 Fiction Book Releases

Wreck
Author: Catherine Newman
Release Date: October 28, 2025
Genre: Fiction
More info: Sequel to Sandwich, November 2025 Good Morning America Book Club Pick!
Age Range: 16+
Plot
This story takes place two years after the events of Sandwich at Rocky’s family home in Massachusetts. Willa is home from college, and Rocky’s dad, now a widower, has moved in with her and Nick. Jamie is living with his girlfriend in New York. When a local man, Jamie’s old school mate, dies in a railroad accident, Rocky starts a new obsession. She cannot get it out of her head and neither can Willa.
This book, unlike Sandwich, follows Rocky and her family through an entire season, rather than a week. It looks at family dynamics and what happens when a member of your family does something unexpected.
Trigger Warnings
Exploration of anxiety
Why Jackie loves it
Newman’s signature wit and humor and present in this book; however, this book deals with anxiety and the toll it takes on Rocky. Because we are exploring this over a longer period of time than Sandwich, the book has a more serious feel. I like the way Newman explores family, relationships, and anxiety. Newman also explores family dynamics in a deeper way.

Trigger Warnings
Child Death, War, Grief

This fantastic novel was steeped in such creative magic that I could vividly picture everything. The Art Deco hotel would have been a treat on it’s own, but adding in the magical paintings, objects, and others items really made it immersive. I was swept away by this charming story.

Trigger Warnings
Some gore, descriptions of war and injuries
Why Jackie loves it
Like all of Harrow’s books, this one is so well thought out and original. It was unexpected for me to follow the journey of Una and Owen as they cross paths again and again. Why Jackie loves it
This contemporary fantasy is everything I love about Stephanie Garber, and more! I love the folklore that is woven throughout. I found it to be so unique and unlike other books I have read. The story is fast-paced and will have you on the edge of your seat. Although it is an adult fantasy, in my opinion, the content in the book is suitable for readers aged 14 and above.

The Women of Wild Hill
Author: Kirsten Miller
Year: 2025
Genre: Fantasy
More info: Best-selling author of The Change
Spice Rating:💋💋
Age Range: 16+
Plot
I love that authors this year are writing badass women who are fighting the patriarchy. Kirsten Miller tackles that theme with this tale of modern witches on Wild Hill, Long Island, where the ghost of a witch burned at the stake barred everyone from her land until Sadie from Scotland arrived.
For generations, Sadie’s descendants thrived on Wild Hill as each generation’s power grew. Now, Brigid, Phoebe, and Sibyl have been called back to Wild Hill to deliver a reckoning to mankind – and specifically the billionaires who treat the earth like their playground with little consequence for the disastrous impact on people and planet.
Brigid can see death, Phoebe can heal with her plants and the sisters have always been close until their mother’s untimely death when they were ripped apart. Decades have passed without the sisters speaking and without them stepping foot on Wild Hill. Phoebe’s daughter, Sibyl, knows nothing of her heritage, her mother’s powers, or even that she has an aunt.
But when they are all called back by their descendants, they must work through their differences and learn to trust one another to change the trajectory of the world.
Why Kirsten loves it
I could not put this story down. If you liked The Change, this is set in the same world – with small callbacks to that plot – but on a much larger scale. I was blown away by Kirsten’s ability to weave such an intricate story that was both intimate and global in scheme. A favorite of the year for me without a doubt. #gifted by William Morrow.

She’s determined to win his proposal by training by his side. But fellow attendee, Ronan, might just be too much of a distraction for her.

Plot
Where are the BUFFY fans? Because this book sounds like Buffy meets Golden Girls in the match-up of my dreams. When three retired Chosen Ones turned bookstore owners discover their basement might be the opening to the underworld, they might just need to come out of retirement to save the world.
Why Kirsten loves it
I will be raving about this unique story to all my fellow 90s fans! Not only did this story remind me of Buffy in the best way possible, but it was such a fun story that it will stand up to non-Buffy fans, too. The snarky friendship between the three roommates anchored the whole story, but the plot was action-packed with a thrilling conclusion. I’m secretly hoping this will be adapted to the screen or turned into a book series! #gifted by DAW

When things don’t turn out the way they expected at the end of their month apart, Ingrid begins a slow journey of self-discovery to figure out exactly who she is, and what it is she wants out of life.
Why Kirsten loves it
The romance in this one took a back seat for me, as Ingrid grew into herself over the course of this story. I like that it was framed over the course of one transformative year as Ingrid finally bloomed into her own. Her disastrous dates were hysterical, but the slow-burning romance was the steady beat behind the whole story. #gifted by Macmillan Audio.

Go-to holiday romance writer, Emily Stone, is back with another heartwarming story set in Scotland! He needs her to fake that they are still together to give his mom her perfect Christmas wish. In exchange, she gets to publicly dump him after the holiday. Will she get the ultimate revenge, or will she confuse her fake feelings for real ones?
Why Kirsten loves it
I love a second-chance romance, and this holiday story was adorable! Emotion-wise, this story was lighter than most of Emily Stone’s books, but I’m OK with that. It was nice not to be sobbing for once. I also loved all the highland Christmas activities throughout this one.

Grace & Henry’s Holiday Movie Marathon
Author: Matthew Norman
Year: 2025
Genre: Holiday Fiction
Spice Rating:💋💋
Age Range: 18+
Plot
Grace and Henry both lost their spouses shortly after the start of the new year. Now, it’s been a year, and they’ve become friends because they understand one another, despite their mother’s meddling schemes. Together, along with Grace’s kids, they decide to tackle a tradition Henry had with his wife – an annual holiday movie marathon.
As Grace and Henry’s friendship grows, they learn to lean on one another to get through their respective grief and even being to start healing.
Trigger Warnings
Death of a Spouse, Grief
Why Kirsten loves it
This is sort of a romance, but it’s really more about Grace and Henry dealing with their respective grief in their own ways. Henry’s grief was unexpected while Grace’s husband has cancer. Because of how their grief manifested, their stories were very different and they way they healed was different and beautiful.
And I can’t leave out Grace’s kids and their connection to their mother, their family unit, and Henry – oh and the mice! They brought much-needed levity to the story, rounding it out and keeping it from being too heavy.

Trigger Warnings
Difficult divorce, pregnancy loss, chronic illness
Why Jackie loves it
This is a romance that is unlike many others. It deals with difficult topics that are heartbreaking at times. Evelyn suffers from debilitating migraines as well. Meltzer’s description of the pain is so accurate that I felt Evelyn’s pain. I laughed and cried while reading this book, and I love that it is perfect for Hanukkah and Christmas. This Hanukkah take on A Christmas Carol is a must-read for the holidays.

Anne of Avenue A
Author: Audrey Bellezza and Emily Harding
Year: 2025
Genre: Holiday Fiction
More info: For The Love of Austen #3
Spice Rating:💋💋💋💋
Age Range:18+
Plot
Persuasion lovers rejoice! This modern retelling of Austen’s classic takes readers to Manhattan at Christmas when Anne Elliot and Freddie Wentworth are reunited after she broke his heart years ago. Imagine her shock when she finds out he’s living in her childhood home.
Why Kirsten likes it
While this is billed as a holiday romance, it’s really a romance with a hint of holiday. There is a brief scene on Thanksgiving and then a moment when a Christmas tree is going up, but it really has limited holiday content. I mention that because some Austen fans would turn away from the holiday billing, while others will want more than it has.
As retellings go, this one comes from writers well-versed in writing modern-day Austen. While I enjoyed seeing scenes from Persuasion adapted to a modern setting, there is something about the plot of the book as a whole that doesn’t lend itself as well to adaptation as, say, Emma. Still, it was clever and fun!

With the help of his daughter, Mac, the two vow to become the best-fake daters anyone has ever seen. And to do that, they will have to practice, a lot.
Why Jackie loves it
