Guide to Fourth Wing Characters

I wrote this guide to the Fourth Wing characters to prepare for the next book’s release. As the series gets deeper and there are more characters, I wanted to make sure I have them all clearly in my head. I created this guide to help you as well. A refresher before the next book or even while reading a book is so helpful/

Fourth Wing Characters

I read Fourth Wing by author Rebecca Yarros before Kirsten, and she became just as obsessed with the series as I did. As we read the books, we carefully noted the characters, their relationships, and their dragons. I want to be sure that all the information in my Fourth Wing character guide is clear and accurate. If you are looking for a Fourth Wing Summary or a Synopsis of Iron Flame, you can check out these posts for a quick refresher.

There are more than 60 characters in the books and I am not including them all in my Fourth Wing character list. That will be too confusing. I am including the characters who play a role in moving the plot forward. If a character becomes important in later books, I will add them to the list.

Fourth Wing has become a phenomenon and I do not think it is over-hyped. There are so many unanswered questions and theories about what will happen next. My next post may be all those thoughts in one place!

Main Fourth Wing Characters

Violet Sorrengail

Lightning Weilder, Dragons are Tairn and Andarna. She was trained to be a scribe like her father until his death. She then trained for 6 months to become a dragon rider. She has a condition that weakens her joints like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Because she is weaker than the other riders, she relies on her brain and out-of-the-box thinking rather than physical strength. She has brown hair with silver tips. She has a second signet that has been hinted at in Iron Flame.

Xaden Riorson

Shadow Wielder, Dragon Sgaeyl. Third-year student at Basgaith War College. He is the Wingleader of Fourth Wing. His father, Fen Riorson was the leader of the rebellion and was executed for his crimes along with all the separatists. Xaden and the other children were saved from Dragonfire by the rebellion relics. Xaden made a deal with General Sorrengail that the rebel children be allowed to fight as dragon riders rather than be executed for their parents’ crimes.

Dain Aetos

Can read minds with a touch, Dragon Cath. Dain is Violet’s oldest friend and her crush. They spent a lot of time together because Colonol Aetos, Dain’s Dad, is General Sorrengail’s aid. Dain is the squad leader of Second Squad, Flame Section, Second Wing at the beginning of Fourth Wing. However, Xaden moves the entire squad to Fourth Wing. Dain tries to protect Violet throughout the first book.

General Lilith Sorrengail

Storm Wielder, Dragon Aimsir. Violet’s Mother and the General who executed the participants in the Tyrrish rebellion. She told Violet that she would be entering the Rider’s Quadrant rather than the Scribe Quadrant 6 months before they were set to walk across the parapet.

Mira Sorrengail

Ward extension, Dragon Teine. Violet’s older sister. She is a dragon rider who gives Violet boots and a dragonscale corset before she crosses the parapet.

Mr. Sorrengail

Violet’s dad is unnamed in the series. He was a scribe until his death. He gave Violet The Fables of Barren, a book of forbidden stories that may prove important as the series continues. It is interesting that of all the fourth Wing characters, he is unnamed

Brennan Sorrengail

Mender- Dragon Marbh. Violet and Mira’s older brother. Died 5 years before the start of Fourth Wing in the Tyrrish rebellion. He was killed by Fen Riorson.

Rhiannon Matthias

Summoner- Dragon Feirge. Violet’s friend at Basgaith War College. Violet gives Rhi one of her boots with a sturdy sole so Rhi does not fall off the parapet. Rhiannon helps train Violet in combat in exchange for tutoring in history. She has a twin named Reagan.

Jack Barlowe

Signet N/A, Dragon Baide. Violet meets Jack at the parapet when she watches him throw another cadet off the side. He makes it his mission to kill Violet. Violet follows him as he tries to kill Andarna. She tries to protect Andarna and Tairn comes to both their rescues.

Sawyer Henrick

Dragon Sleiseag, metal affinity. Sawyer is a second-year student at Basgaith War College who did not bond with a dragon during the Threshing his year. He must repeat his first year and survive again in the hope that at the next threshing, he can bond with a dragon. He agrees to help Violet with her combat skills if she will help him with history. Sawyer is chosen as the Squad leader in Iron Flame

Liam Mairi

Farsight, Dragon Deigh. Liam is one of the strongest students in Fourth Wing. He is Xaden’s foster brother after his parents were killed for being a part of the rebellion. He protects Violet. He is a loyal friend and well-liked.

Fourth Wing Dragons

In Fourth Wing, Dragons develop their tails according to their needs and each type of dragon has special features. For example, Blue Dragons are known for their size, Green Dragons are intelligent, and Orange Dragons are the most unpredictable. Is anyone surprised that Jack chose an Orange Daggertail? Black Dragons, Like Tairn, are the rarest Dragons. There are 6 types of dragons: Red, Orange, Green, Blue, Black, and Brown.
