Guide to The Emily Wilde Series

After I finished the Compendium of Lost Tales, I knew I needed to make a guide to the Emily Wilde Series. Sadly, the third book in the series is the last, but the good news is that it is a completed fantasy trilogy that you can binge!

Guide to the Emily Wilde Series

The Encyclopedia of Faeries is the first book in the series and it had me hooked. I love Emily and her quirky ways. The book read almost like a historical fiction and makes this the perfect fantasy series for someone new to the genre. If you are looking for more historical fantasy picks, you can check out my post, Historical Fantasy Books.

The first book follows Emily, a dryadologist, as she compiles her Faerie Encyclopedia. In the second book, she maps the fae lands and the doors which connect them. In the third book in the series, Emily compiles a list of fae stories. I loved the first book, but the second and third get even better. So often a series starts strong and then fades quickly. That is not the case with this series.

Emily Wilde Series Reviews

Emily Wildes

Genre: Fantasy

Emily Wilde is an expert on the study of faeries who is writing the first encyclopedia on faerie lore. She has traveled to the village of Hrafnsvik to study the Hidden Ones. She is much better with her dog and faeries than she is with people so she is not happy when Wendell Bamblely shows up uninvited. He is her handsome and lazy rival who is not opposed to making things up as he goes along.

This is one of the best fantasy books of 2023! I knew I needed to read it as soon as I saw the name, but everything about it was wonderful. This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. The sequel, Emily Wilde’s Map of the Overlands is already of of my favorites of 2024.

Emily Wildes Map of the Otherlands

The first book in this series was one of my favorites of the year last year and I had high hopes for this book. It did not disappoint!

Emily Wilde is an expert in faerie folklore and has written an encyclopedia on the subject. Now, she is trying to make a map of the realms of faerie in the hope of finding a door to their land.

Brambleby, her colleague turned boyfriend who also happens to be the banished faerie king, is accompanying her on her quest. The only problem is that he is on the run from assassins sent by his mother and Emily cannot understand why now.

This is a historical fantasy that has the feel of fiction and would be perfect for someone new to the fantasy realm. However, die-hard fantasy lovers will also adore this book. This book has the feel of a historical fiction with the perfect touch of magic. I recommend this book for anyone who loves Alice Hoffman’s book Magic Lessons (the prequel to Practical Magic) #gifted

You can find the first book in this series on my list of Best Adult Fantasy Novels. It is a breath of fresh air as is the second book in the series. Emily Wilde is embarking on her greatest challenge yet as a dryadologist. She will be studying the faerie realm from the inside as the new queen.

Wendell is now her fiancé and is taking his rightful place as king, but his stepmother placed a deadly curse on the realm before disappearing. Wendell and Emily must use their combined magic and knowledge to save everything they love before the kingdom falls to ruin.

Every book in the series gets better. I am not sure if there are plans for more, but I will read every book. Emily Wilde keeps developing as a character and I love her relationship with Wendell. This book, like all the books in the series, reads more like a historical fiction and sometimes like a nonfiction! Emily writes in her journals, and her notes feel real!
