Jenny Colgan Mure Series

The Jenny Colgan Mure Series is my favorite of all her series. I was sucked in with the first book in the series, Cafe by the Sea, and I have been captivated by all the books after. I wanted to make a guide to the Mure series and all its books.

Jenny Colgan Mure Series

I started reading Jenny Colgan in 2018 and have been reading her books religiously since. She has written more than 35 books, so if can be a little daunting to keep track of all of her books. If you want to see my favorite Jenny Colgan books ranked (hint: Cafe by the Sea is #1) or see a complete list of all of the Jenny Colgan books in Order, I have those as well.

I have always said I wanted to walk the shores of Mure Island with Flora. There is something about this series that feels like a hot cup of cocoa for the soul.

Jenny Colgan churns out another light beach read with heart. Cafe by the Sea is set on the gorgeous island of Mure in Scotland. Scotland shines in this story about life in a town set in its ways and trying to resist the pull of modern life. Flora has returned home because her boss, Joel – who she is secretly in love with – asks her to. She thought she needed to leave Mure to be who she was destined to be, but being back and reconnecting with her family has her questioning who she really wants to be.

There is a romance in this story, but the pull was also on the heroine reconnecting with her old life and family.

The continuation of The Cafe by the Sea series features Flora, Joel, and the cast of characters on the Island of Mure. Flora is continuing to strengthen the Cafe and work on her relationship with Joel, while whales are seen off the coast of Mure. But the town is divided on the whales – many excited to see them, others convinced it’s a bad omen. Meanwhile, Lorna and Fintan each have a developing love story.

Terminal Illness

I loved seeing how their relationship is progressing, and diving into some of the other romances on the island. I really enjoy book series that immerse the reader into a community. I feel like the inhabitants of Mure are my personal friends at this point!

Flora and the gang are back for a Christmas story set on Mure. Joel and Flora’s relationship takes center stage once again, but more time is also paid to Saif, Lorna’s love interest, and his boys. Fintan and Colton prepare for their first and last Christmas together on the island, but this story isn’t all candy canes and snowflakes. There are some serious issues to be confronted in the heart-wrenching 3rd installment of this beloved series.

Terminal Illness

This book left me gutted. I cried so many times at the end of this book. It was very cathartic but so heart-wrenching. I honestly felt for every character impacted by the many tragic storylines. I know the fourth book in the series is coming out soon, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it now.

This was a happier book in the series than the last one. We get to see Flora and Joel’s new baby, check in with Fintan, and meet a new cast of characters as the residents of Mure prepare for the new hotel opening.

There were cute love stories laid out while Colgan wrapped up some longstanding plotlines, but there was also space for more books in the series to be written.

Colgan takes us back to Mure, Scotland in the 5th book of the Island of Mure series. This time, Joel and Flora are FINALLY planning their wedding, but they aren’t on the same page about what it should look like.

Meanwhile, Olivia, Jan’s famous sister, wants to throw an over-the-top wedding on the Rock that is making Flora just a wee jealous, while creating tons of drama around the island. We see Jan become almost unhinged with jealousy, Lorna still nursing her secret passion, and Fintan trying to get over his recent loss, too.

A fitting conclusion to Flora’s storyline, nevertheless, I still hope we get more books in the series!

This brand-new book brings us to northern Scotland, where Morag McGinty is a third-generation pilot. Following an accident in the air, Morag’s boyfriend wants her to move with him to Dubai.

Struggling and now fearful of flying, she returns home to fly her Grandpa’s route when he is sick. When she has to make a quick landing on a small island in a storm, she meets Gregor Cameron who might change everything.

Here’s the thing, I am TERRIFIED of flying so a book about planes isn’t going to be a favorite of mine, especially if it involves mechanical failures. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but if the subject matter doesn’t put you off, you might enjoy the newest Jenny Colgan book! #gifted by Avon

close knit

Morag is in desperate need of someone to take over for her pregnant airline check-in assistant, so she hires Gertie. Introverted Gertie is used to a quiet, sheltered life surrounded by her mother and grandmother’s knitting circle. She’s desperate to get out of her shell and make friends of her own, so she leaps at the chance to work for Morag’s airline.

But Gertie’s inexperience and tendency to have her head in the clouds makes it hard for her to adjust to life on her own. Morag, as both her employer and new roommate, finds her a bit of an enigma, but she’s too wrapped up in running the airline and shuttling to a remote island to visit her boyfriends.

It was fun to revisit Morag, but I still don’t love the airline storyline as a whole. It’s the nervous flyer in me. Gertie is a frustrating character as well, always with her head in the clouds. I could have done with less daydreaming, though I came around to Gertie in the last 30-40% of the book when she found her inner strength.

This is one of those series that mostly needs to be read in order, with a few exceptions.

  • Books 1 to 5 follow Flora, Joel, Lorna, Saif, Colton, and Fintan through a large arc.
  • Summer Skies has some of our favorite characters as background players, but can mostly be read alone as it focuses on Morag.
  • Morag is a secondary character in Close Knit, so I would recommend you read them in order, but you could technically read Close Knit as a standalone!
