It’s almost that time of year again. Hanukkah lights, Christmas lights, latkes, and cookies are everywhere! It’s my favorite time of year. There is something in the air that brings out kindness and happiness in everyone. I love curling up with a good book- especially if I can read the books to my kids. Holiday classics are some of my favorites and we have included a list of our favorites below for both Christmas and Hanukkah. Continue reading “Best Holiday Books for Kids”
It’s that wonderful time of year again! The holidays are here and there is nothing better than sitting down to read a good book. There are some fantastic new kids books that are coming out (or have just been released). I love when there are great new books to read with my kids. We read a lot in my house so adding some new books to the rotation of old favorites always helps. Here is a list of our favorite upcoming releases for kids books. Did we forget your favorite? Let us know!
Reading and games go hand and hand. Games bring hands-on learning and practical application to things learned in books. For example, you may go over colors in Eric Carle books and a game will reinforce the concepts. These pairings are great for holiday gifts and parties when you don’t know what to give a child. Kids of all ages love games.
We think that these games and books are the perfect compliments to each other. The games are easy enough for little kids to play but fun enough that grown-ups won’t mind playing as well. Sometimes games can get annoying for parents. I cannot play another round of Hi Ho Cherry Oh or Chutes and Ladders. We have chosen games that will not drive you crazy when kids ask to play on repeat. We also included some book and game pairings for adults because Kirsten and I LOVE games. Continue reading “Book and Game Pairings PLUS the Hottest New Reading Toy”
It’s that time of year again. The leaves start to fall from the trees, the weather starts to get colder, the throw blankets become more than decorations. It is always this time of year that the big books call to me. You know the ones- those epic reads that seem daunting the rest of the year. When there is a big comfy chair and a warm fire, those hunks of books don’t seem so intimidating.
Kirsten and I have decided to give you a list of our favorite LONG reads. For the purposed of this post, we will consider that to be any book over 500 pages. Some of these whoppers are close the 1,000 pages so be warned. However, the time it takes to read these books is well worth it in the end. After all, some stories just can’t be abbreviated. Every book that we have on this list is 5 stars in our opinion. Continue reading “16 Epic Reads for the Holidays”
I live on a street that has a block party every year. The neighbors get together to talk and catch up and I love it. I didn’t know that when I moved in but, I found out a few weeks later. There used to be just a handful of kids in attendance but now, 7 years later, there is an entire area blocked off specifically for the dozens of kids to bike, draw with chalk and play ball.
This year, a neighbor who looked familiar to me introduced herself. My book fairy godmother, as I now call her, not only lived on my street but, she works in my favorite children’s bookstore. Her familiarity was not just proximity to where I live but, the countless hours I spend in Children’s Book World in Haverford.
The result of this fortuitous coincidence is that Kirsten and I were able to attend a fantastic event at Children’s Book World. At the event, the educators and owners of the shop shared with us the best children’s books of 2017. We now have a list of these fantastic, newly-released picture books, early readers, and middle-grade books to share with you.
