Frequently Asked Questions
What genre should a 6-year-old read?
Like all readers, 6-year-olds should read the genre they find most interesting. The hard part is finding books at their reading level that make them eager to read. Have them read the first page of any book. If they struggle with more than three words, try a different one.
What are the best books for 6-year-olds?
A hard question to answer, but some of my favorites from each genre include Baby Monkey, Private Eye by Brian Selznick, I Lost a Tooth by Mo Willems, and The Ramona Series by Beverly Cleary.
